Reason for taking this trip:
To meet all the lovely people in the world and share some smiles :)
Why did you decide to drive?:
After six months of backpacking and hitching we decided it was time to buy a vehicle again, that way we could travel at our own pace and interact with the locals in far greater depth.
What type of car are you driving?:
2004 Mercedes Sprinter (Dodge 2500)
Did you make any modifications to your car for this trip?:
We bought our vehicle 18 months ago and did all the camper conversion ourselves to ensure we would have exactly what we wanted and save ourselves a lot of money at the same time.
How long do you plan on traveling?:
It's been 13 years to date and we're having such a great time we see no reason to stop yet :) The last 2 years were in the Americas with the last 18 months in our beloved camper.
Where do you plan on driving? :
All of the Americas. From the very top all the way down to the bottom visiting every country on the way.
Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?:
- Being able to speak or willing to learn a little Spanish would be helpful.
- Experience has taught us if you plan on living in your vehicle for longer than a few weeks, make sure it’s one you can stand up in. This may not sound important now but it sure will when your knees are killing you from all the crawling and your backache stops you from being able to enjoy the drive.
