luke and sarah

Hopefully visiting every country in Central and South America that we can drive to. On a roadtrip around the states at the moment in our camper van conversion. Looking to head down to Mexico by the end of September

Hometown:
Attard, Malta (Europe)
When did you start your travels?:
03/23/2017
Reason for taking this trip:
We like to see countries properly! Short holidays are not for us... after many years travelling round Asia, Australia and New Zealand the time has come to see this part of the world.
Why did you decide to drive?:
The first time we travelled round a country in our own vehicle was back in 99 when we bought a camper in the uk and drove to Holland. (And stayed for a year) The freedom you get, the places you get to see and the people you meet make it a completely different experience. Since then we've done Vietnam by vespa, India with a Royal Enfield 350, Australia with an old stationwagon and New Zealand with a Toyota van camper conversion.
Are you also taking along pets?:
No
Are you also taking along children?:
No
What type of car are you driving?:
Ford e350 cargo van that I converted into a mini camper
Did you make any modifications to your car for this trip?:
Went from an empty van to a camper
How did you save up or finance your trip?:
Sold our house and our business
How long do you plan on traveling?:
Been at it for about 4 months now. Another 2 here in the states, then hopefully about a year in central and south america before we head up to canada for 3 months.
Where do you plan on driving? :
Every country in the Americas we can get our van onto.
What were your family’s and friends’ reactions when you told them about your trip before you left?:
Mostly happy for us and maybe a little jealous. No surprises really, they're used to us doing stuff like this.
What languages do you speak? Will you learn more on your trip?:
Maltese, English, Italian and learning Spanish.
Do you have a favorite place that you've visited?:
The Philippines and Nepal are definitely up there.
What was the weirdest thing you experienced on your trip?:
Being told that my country doesnt exist by a immigration guard in Laos because it wasnt on his list
What was the worst border crossing?:
None yet
Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?:
Not yet
