We are a family of 3 that are getting ready to spend the next 2 years driving the Pan American Highway from San Diego, CA to Argentina, exploring all we can, spending time together, meeting new people, and seeing the world one country at a time!

 

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
For us it became a question of what we wanted for our family, our same busy lives hoping we had enough money to take a short trip each summer while the years kept flying by, or to take a break from it all and slow down and spend more time together as a family doing what we love, traveling and exploring!
What type of car are you driving?: 
Suzuki SX4
Summarize your trip in a couple of sentences: 

We left Nate's home in Vermont, US, in September 2016, heading to Chris' home in São Paulo, Brazil, where we plan to arrive in July 2017. To get from home para casa, we are driving a compact Suzuki SX4. As we are going the opposite direction Mexicans, Central and South Americans go to cross the border pursuing the American dream, we challenge ourselves to raise US$ 1 per km we travel to be donated to the Open Door Clinic, a non-profit, free health clinic in Vermont that assists Latino workers.

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
You can have amazing experiences in places people didn't like. You might not enjoy places that people rave about. It's your trip, do your thing. If you are on a tight schedule, remember that the extra day you spend somewhere you like today might mean you miss other amazing places in the future. Go with an open heart!
What type of car are you driving?: 
2001 Toyota 4Runner

We are leaving from Cleveland OH, on July 15th and will go all over central and South America, returning about 6 months later

Driving Ecuador to Columbia - departure date uncertain.  Looking for an adveturesome copilot.  I speak Spanish/ English. Driving an economical Kia sedan.  

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Like I tell everyone, enjoy the dull moments. They are few and far between.

Volkswagen Kombi T2

We are a couple driving Soth America for 1 and a half year :From South Chile to Colombia, where we are right now. 

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Do IT!!This has been the best experience in our lifes!!After 3 years with our VW Kombi, I need to finish our trip and with great sorrow we want to sell our jewel: our VW Kombi T2 '93 year, her name is Margarita :) it is in perfect condition. Impeccable engine and a nice and cozy space inside with all the amenities to travel and live in it. . We want to sell it to other travelers to fulfill this magnificent dream: driving the americas and/or the whole world. If you are interested, please contact me in : rafadeamos@gmail.com. We are a family of 4 - my wife, myself and our two girls, ages 9 and 10, headed from the East Coast of USA to Patagonia.

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?:

My girlfriend and I are going to drive the Panamerican Hwy to Argentina and teach there for a year or so.

2008 Toyota Tacoma with a Fourwheel Camper
Summarize your trip in a couple of sentences: 

Third time works the charm.

Its taken a few years and three vehicles but we finally embarking on an overland trip to finish driving the Americas. In 2010 we took a 1987 Landcruiser and drove it from Kingston, Ontario to Panama and back. In 2012, Melanie, Dante, and I drove our 1994 Mitsubishi L300 Delica to the Arctic Circle and back. 

Now we're driving to Ushuaia, to the end of South America. And back. 

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Do it now. It's easier than you think.

VW Kombi 1995 Brazilian
Summarize your trip in a couple of sentences: 

We are four friends traveling from Mexico to Ushuaia in an old VW Combi We have adapted ourselves. We are currently in Mexico, in the Yucatan region. We will be in Guatemala soon. 

Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?: 
Not yet. We have barely started but, I will probably advise them to try. It can be done , you just need to go for it.
