Updated June 5

We are still looking for someone to share a container, ideally loading around June 20.

Original message

We are in Panama now and will be shipping our Chevy Silverado from Panama (Colon) to Colombia (Cartagena) on or very near June 20, 2013. We are looking for a vehicle to share a 40’ container and split costs. Our vehicle is 21.5 feet long so the max length of a sharing vehicle is 17 feet or shorter

Reliable vehicle wanted anywhere from Mexico City to Panama for journey south to the USA

Hi Readers

I am looking for a reliable, safe vehicle to continue my travels, preferrably south heading north..  A van or wagon with bedding/cooking potential preferred but not necessary as I will modify if need be.

Starting in Panama would be great, or anywhere south of the Darién Gap...

If anyone could help me out with any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Liz :)

Wanted: Car to drive from Panama/Costa Rica to Mexico/USA

We're looking to buy a car in Panama or Costa Rica to drive to Mexico or the USA.

We will keep the car for a good 6 months or more and then sell it on in Mexico or the US.

It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help us find a cheap, reliable car or small van.

Getting rid of a motorcycle in Panama

I've got a pickle that I am hoping someone can help me with. I've driven a 1981 Kawasaki 440ltd as far as Guatemala and am planning to make Panama. At this point since I cannot afford to ship it over, I will need to somehow dispose of it. The bike didn't cost much so I would be willing to even give it away only I am unsure of how to go about doing this with the import visa and all. Is there a way I can give it away or "sell" the bike and still cancel my import visa? Any advice any one could give me would be a huge help.

Fuel and tie-down Qs re shipping from Panama to Colombia

hi all,

Thanks for sharing such great info re shipping vehicles from Panama to Colombia. Two issues I have not seen addressed are:

1. do we need to provide our own tie-downs for securing our truck in the container or are those provided for us?

2. does our gas tank need to be nearly empty prior to loading?

3. We have a 5 gallon jerry can for extra diesel--anyone know if jerry cans are a problem prior to loading?

Shipping vehicles Miami to Cartagena - great rate and new shippingl line

We just booked our vehicle and camper trailer out of Port Everglades to Cartagena on December 8 for less than any of the quotes we got from Panama or Costa Rica.  This is a *new* route line for SCline (because of the Colombia - USA trade agreement) and I wanted to share what we found.  The email quote and the contacts are below.  The rate we got was $6000 for BOTH vehicles (all fees in USA included + an estimated $300 in fees in Colombia) -- and our vehicles are HUGE (sizes in the email).  The rate is $60 a cubic meter plus fees.
