Good place to store our van in Montevideo?

Hello all,

I've gotten tons of useful advice off this forum so a huge shout-out and THANK YOU to everyone who shares their stories, advice and information. It helps, A LOT! I'm going to try and stayed connected more so I can return the favor since we've come all the way down through Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and are now headed to Argentina and Uruguay.

Here's the question: We need to head back to the States for a couple of months in the begining of July. Does anyone know of a good, safe, preferably covered place to store a Sprinter van that is almost 3.0 meters tall in or near Montevideo? Doesn't have to be covered, just guarded and safe from delinquents, rodents and curiousity. I would really appreciate any details and recent advice on this issue. Thank you!

What about in Buenos Aries

What about in Buenos Aries which is where ours is stored.

Not sure how long I´ll get on the permit

We have thought about that but will be in the States for about 6 months and don´t know how long the permit we will get for the van in Argentina will be. I read here that Uruguay will give you a year so that´s what we were shooting for. Also heard that Argentina is a lot tighter on all the paperwork and other stuff. Our flight leaves from Montevideo and, with eight people plus the vehicle, the price of the ferry over there from BA just before we fly out really adds up. Where in BA did you store yours and how much is it costing you a month?

Thank you!

If you already have flights

If you already have flights booked then unlikely to be economical to store in BA.  Normally get 8 months in Argentina but some border posts only give three months - and having the 12 months in Uruguay gives you plenty of margin for changing plans.  is just over from BA $50 a month outside and 80 dollars inside

and I think the one that used to be near the capital has either gone or changed websites.

Thank you!

Yeah, that's exactly what we were thinking. Thanks for the link! I'll check it out.
