Import tax shipping vehicle from Chile/Argentina to USA?

Hi - we’re considering shipping our Chilean camper from either Chile/Argentina (looks easier!) to the states. We’re from the UK. Can anyone advise on what kind of tax/fees we would be liable for on either end?

Dear Kelly ,

Dear Kelly ,

I am not sure what you are trying to find out. However, what i understand is , your vehicle which is registered in the UK will enter the USA on temporary basis and not not being imported (to USA) to register as US vehicle (???).

Well, my answer is , no vehicle on tourims and not permanent import pay duties or wnytihng like it.  I assume your camper is a motorhome , not a trailable camper. If it is trailable, then it goes with the vehicle together as one package. No import taxes  applied in anyway.

The only requirement you will have and apply to all imported (USA) motorized vehicles is that an EPA (Enviromental Agency ) letter of Non Conformance is necessary. This letter has no cost except the processing. And should be requested once you have a booking for the shipping The letter allow the vehicle to stay (1) year max in the USA. To get the latter (by email) take 14 days to receive it, and its necessary to have it at the moemnt of the vehicle arrival in the U.S.

After that year is completed (or the export is initiated), the letter must be sent back along with the Export document  to US Customs  to formalize the export previous to that (1) year allowance.  If you plan to be more than one year , then your option is crossing  the border and re enter the U.S. , on which the vehicle will be allowed as  " compannied bagagge " , no document is givne to the vehicle , no limits , only the permanecy allowed by your tourist visa.  Obviously , you will exit the country with the vehicle.
