Selling a Canadian registered car in South America

Wondering if anyone is familiar with the process of selling a Canadian (BC) registered car in South America (most likely Chile, Peru or Bolivia)?

I see Canadian plated vehicles on sale sometimes and am mostly wondering how the registration is transfered to the new owner without physically being in Canada. Is there a legal way of doing this?

Any info appreciated.

Yes, BC plated vehicles are

Yes, BC plated vehicles are by far the most common Canadian vehicles seen in central and south America - apparently because the BC system is easy PROVIDED you are in the state to carry out the process.  Seems however that it is a case of easy buy BUT very difficult to impossible to do the transfer by remote control simply because the plates go with the person and not the vehicle. Adding to the complication is that registration involves mandatory insurance.

I suspect people that buy them do so using a Poder and or photoshopped documents and maybe they hope to do the legal transfer on the way up through BC.  I have read one story where someone claimed they found someone in BC who could do the paperwork but as often the case, no useable info was provided.

As for poders, they work but apparently a couple of countries don't always accept poders from other countries.

poder to buy a vehicle en Argentina - URGENT

Hi everybody

Next week i buying a car in BA with canadian plate. Apparently we have to by the car through a Poder. What i don t understand is how a poder can be used to sell it to the next owner since unless the poder stipulates the possibility to pass the poder to an other person...

Anyone experience with this kind of poder? Looking for a notary aswell you is familiar with this theme in BA. I understood that a 'escribano publico' should do but until now i haven't a notary that can confirm this procedure.

Thanks for your help!

Poder to sell a Car in Argentina

Hi Dries

we are about to sell our Canadian car here in Buenos Aires. I was wondering if you would be kind enough to help me with the Poder template and the name of the notary where you completed the process.

I really would appreciate you cooperation. My email is [email protected]
