US/Canada car insurance foreign cars

We will be arriving in Halifax on February 27th and are still looking to get car insurance, have been rejected by at least 8 companies. Car is too old, don't insure foreign cars, not possible when arriving in Halifax etc.

Does anyone have any tips on where to get our vehicle insured?

Very grateful for any leads..

Progressive Insurance insured

Progressive Insurance insured my Australian registered car while it was in the US and also Canada in 2013. They will also be insuring me in 2014 when I come back in an Australian registered Toyota Land Cruiser.     If insured in US, make sure you get a special Canadian document (free) from your US insurer to show as proof of Coverage in Cnada when you cross the border (although I was never asked !!)

Secet is to have a US address and phone number ready - Even if it is just a friends.  The Americans like you to have a US contact address - and don't like it when you try to give them an overseas address, especially when applying on line !!

So Dutchies, where did you find insurance?

Here is an option I found by hazard, likely outdated:

Seeing the Dutchies never let

Seeing the Dutchies never let us know how they got on with insurance, I will add the following for general information:-

As I said before, I have used Progressive in the USA, and never had a problem.  All you need is to have a zip code - a friend, or someone to let you use their address.  I used Progressive out of Washington State because that was where my sister lives, and I use her zip code.

This recent trip I shipped from UK to Halifax NS in Canada, but was still able to use Progressive in Washington, and just told them I also needed the (free) Canadian Insurance coverage.  I had it all emailed to me before I arrived in Halifax.

But while shipping across from Europe to Halifax, I found a couple of other options that people may not know about, so I put them up here.

I used Seabridge to ship my car from Europe to Halifax, and they will do USA and Canadian insurance for foreign plated vehicles.  Not cheap, but if you need it, they will do it.

Also, having my Aussie plated car in Europe and me not being a resident in Europe (even though I have a Brit passport, I am not "resident") i had a REAL struggle getting insurance - Much harder for me in Europe than it ever was in USA or Central / South America !!.  Eventually got coverage through Maria M. Alessie at Assurantiekantoor Alessie in Netherlands.  Again, not cheap, but at least I got European coverage for the year I was there.  And she will also provide coverage for the USA and Canada, I believe.

So there are some other options if people get stuck.
