Bernardo, Krys & Helen
Leaving 01/02/15 from Houston, TX on a F-250 4x4 extended cab and a Palomino S-550 camper.
Houston, TX- But we are both from Venezuela
When did you start your travels?:
Reason for taking this trip:
Why not? the only thing stopping us from doing this great adventure was ourselves. We both love to travel, and have had our fare share of traveling over the years but nothing like this. We are young, don't have kids, only our mortgage payment on our shoulders so we are ready to do this.
Why did you decide to drive?:
Traveling for a whole year is expensive, we didnt have friends in each country of Central & South America to have "free stay" so we would have to pay for hotels, that adds up, plus eating out. We also wanted to see what other people didnt so the best way to do that is by driving. Plus we wanted to take our beagle with us.
Are you also taking along pets?:
Are you also taking along children?:
What type of car are you driving?:

Did you make any modifications to your car for this trip?:
For the F-250: New Shocks New Batteries Took out back seat and built a huge lockbox for extra storage and security. our inspiration was Meg & Jed from adventureamericas.wordpress.com Back and side LED lights Bumper For the camper -Inverter -Solar Panel - Shower Curtain
How did you save up or finance your trip?:
We have been saving for a whole year. We don't have cable, don't eat out, No going to the salon often, cook every meal at home, I sell art as a hobby and we sometimes participate in focus groups which helps also.
How long do you plan on traveling?:
From Jan- Dic 2016
Where do you plan on driving? :
Leaving TX, towards Baja, heading to Mexico boarding the Pacific, then Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador we will try to pass by in a day, all the way down to Panama crossing by Ferry to Colombia. Will go to Venezuela to visit family and friends and then keep heading south till we reach Ushuaia, Argentina.
What were your family’s and friends’ reactions when you told them about your trip before you left?:
When we told them they were like.. what? what do you mean? but you just bought a house..? I think it's very dangerous you should really think about it. Some others were very supportive , jealous and excited for us. All of our friends are planning to come down and visit us at some point.
What languages do you speak? Will you learn more on your trip?:
Somos Venezolanos!! We are fluent in Spanish so we are good on that. Maybe we will be learning new accents and picking up new words :)
Do you have a favorite place that you've visited?:
Not yet :) But will EDIT this at the end of our trip.
What was the weirdest thing you experienced on your trip?:
We will let you know for sure when we come back!
What was the worst border crossing?:
We hope they are all easy.. especially with the dog! but We will let you know for sure when we come back!
Do you have any advice for others who may be considering driving the Americas?:
DO IT NOW! it's never late to do it, and you think it's so expensive.. well think again! Plan, save and get moving.
